A Lesson Well Learned

How can it be ?
How come it’s not me ?
The universe just isn’t fair
I learned that at sixteen
All the nights I lay awake
Fantasising how I’d tell her
Just how much I loved her
And she’d fall into my arms
And it would be happily
Ever after.
But, no, some girls don’t
Want romantic gestures
Unfortunately, they are
Happier getting fucked in
A field by some guy they’ve
Just met. A guy who has
Probably never read, and
Definitely never written a
Poem in his life.
Yes, I learned at sixteen
That the world isn’t fair
