Little birds by Claire Marsden

Poetry

You are my little bird,

caught in a net. Broken,

yet beautifully whole.

On whispered wings I’ll show you

how to carry your suffering.

I’ll place a saucer of stars

upon your brow,

and my devotion to the sky

will be your anchor.

The sun will never claim you.

I’ll make you sovereign of your universe,

knowing,

all the while,

that behind my smile,

I’m a shelter of bones.
